Can you make the best fish or pork dish in your parish? Then we’re looking for you! Each month we’ll be on the search for the best community chef in each parish, beginning with St. Lucy, who can make the best fish or pork dish, but it must include sweet potato! ⠀
This year as part of the We Gatherin’ calendar the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) will be hosting a series of pop-ups throughout the year – one per parish each month. Accompanying these pop-ups will be the execution of Pick-De-Dish – the National Food & Rum Competition. This competition is a community initiative geared at allowing the most lauded chefs in the community to ‘face- off’ for a series of monthly prizes, culminating with a national event during the 2020 F&R Festival, where the winning chefs from each parish will be given the chance to compete for the grand prize.
In an effort to support local farmers in the respective communities, as well as those in the fishing industry, the competition will feature Pork and Fish dishes served with Sweet Potato. As is customary with the pop-ups, the monthly events will feature (along with the live cook-off), mixology competitions, rum games and spin the wheel activities.
Persons can enter or register participants through the submission of a photo of their signature pork or fish dish via pickdedish.com. Voting is then open to the public where 4 finalists will be selected (2 Pork and 2 Fish). These finalists will then compete at the scheduled F&R Pop-Up event for that month.
January will be treated as a special month. The cook-off that was held on Saturday, January 18 at the Food and Rum Pop-up in St. Lucy was for demonstration purposes only for the launch of the competition.
