Art Wednesday: Colour de Town

An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until February 26, 2020
Art Wednesday will be held on three consecutive Wednesdays, February 12, 19 and 26, 2020from 1:00 – 8:00 pm. at various locations on Queen Street, Speightstown.
Art Wednesday will include En plein air sessions, interactive mural activity and workshops. Art students from the Barbados Community College and the Secondary Schools in St. Peter will be asked to participate along with other amateur and professional artists within the community.
During the En plein air sessions, artists will move around Speightstown setting up their easels and painting various images.
The creation of three (3) murals will involve members of the public participating in the designing, decorating and painting of themed heritage-concept murals which will subsequently be affixed to walls in Speightstown. This interactive activity is open to anyone who wishes to participate.
Three craft workshops will be incorporated into Art Wednesdays and will be held at the Gallery of Caribbean Art, the Republic Bank and the Speightstown Esplanade, and other locations along Queen Street. The workshops are on:
- jewelry making
- masks making
- the weaving of fabric demonstrations to expose children to the art of loom weaving
Participants will register for one (1) workshop. Workshops will cater to 10-15 participants.
Art Wednesday will be accompanied by local entertainment relating to the heritage theme including the Rose Hill Tuk Band, Cavil Best and Dance Afrique, steel pannist, Ricky Benn, and school bands from the Coleridge and Parry and Alexandra Schools.
