The Mural Process:
In response to the Request for Proposal sent out by the Vision 2020 Unit, between September 1 and October 14, 2019 a total of 17 designs were submitted. A Selection Committee comprised of Ras Akyem, Douglas Luke, Jaryd Niles-Morris and Shelly Mayer met and assessed the submissions on October 24th, 2019 and the two top designs were shortlisted.
The artists of the shortlisted designs met with the Selection Committee (individually) on October 28th, 2019. This engagement was used to give the artists the benefit of the Committee’s feedback, to assess their ability to execute and to identify any skills gaps that may need to be addressed. The artists of the two shortlisted designs were then given the opportunity to improve their designs based on the feedback of the Committee and resubmit to the Vision 2020 Unit by November 4th, 2019.
The revised shortlisted designs were put to an online public vote, to determine the eventual winner. The winner has since been selected and the mural is expected to start by the end of the month and unveiled in the first quarter of 2020. Stay tuned!
